Some items are not transmitted through India Post regarding norms of this departments and civil aviation departments & others. The counter PA should ensure that the prohibited items are not included in the consignments. If any suspicion arises immediately brings it to the SPM/Post Master and he/she brings it to Divisional Superintendent. The prohibited items are as follow: (click on drop down)
👉 Gold coin or bullion or gold ornaments or articles of gold or both of value exceeding “one lakh rupees” shall not be transmitted by post.
👉 any ticket, proposal or advertisement relating to a lottery organized or authorized by the Government,
👉Dangerous goods*, narcotics & psychotropic substances, prohibited drugs & cosmetics items, items prohibited by / under IATA (International Air Transport Association), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), Department of Wildlife and Drug & Cosmetics Act.
👉Any explosive, inflammable, dangerous, filthy, noxious or deleterious substance, any sharp instrument not properly protected, or any living creature which is either noxious or likely to injure postal articles in course of transmission by post or any officer of the Post Office.
👉 Coins, currency notes and bank notes
👉 Battery and other articles whose transmission is prohibited by air, will only be send to the addressee through Surface mode only.

POST OFFICE (SECOND AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2025 – REGULATION 92A GYAN POST: NOTIFICATION DATED 28.04.2025
Effected from: 01.05.2025
A new postal category for transmitting books/packets related to:
Prescribed syllabi for students (by recognized boards/universities).
Social, cultural, or religious literature (published per relevant laws).
Competitive exam textbooks.
Content Restrictions:
No periodicals (e.g., magazines, journals). No business/commercial books.
Advertisements allowed only for incidental announcements/book lists.
Features:
Weight Limits: 300g (min) to 5kg (max).
Transmission Mode: Surface transport (road).
Value-Added Services: Registration, proof of delivery, and insurance available.
Transmission: Handled as Parcel Post.
Delivery Process:
Postmen deliver to addressee’s address (signature required).
Undelivered items returned to sender with remarks.
Maximum Weight: 35 KG (Domestic) & 35 kg (international ,for some countries it is restricted to 30kg & 20 kg)
Air transmission
Insurance up to Rs. 1 Lakh
COD up to 50,000/-
Compensation: Delay - Speed Post charges.
Loss of article, pilferage or damage - Double the Speed Post charges or INR. 1000 whichever is less.
Letter up to 500 gms and there after treated as Parcel/ Merchandise .

Maximum Weight: 35 KG (Domestic) & 35 kg (international ,for some countries it is restricted to 30kg & 20 kg)

For loss / total theft / total damage – Up to 40 SDR* per parcel plus 4.50 SDR* per kg or the value of contents, whichever is less, subject to an upper ceiling of 130 SDR* plus the postage paid
For partial loss or partial damage or partial theft - compensation paid shall be limited to the value of lost or damaged content.
